"This is an emergency weather bulletin. Please stay tuned for an important weather warning. A severe snow storm watch is now in effect. Snow accumulation of ten feet is possible. All listeners should take emergency precautions." Asher's elephant heard Asher's dad switch the radio off. Asher's elephant could not believe what he had just heard; ten feet of snow in December? In Florida? He immediately knew what had happened. The night before Asher and Asher's elephant had been filling up cups with ice and running back and forth between the ice dispenser and the toilet, filling the toilet with ice. Who knows how many cups of ice they had dumped in the toilet. Then they had flushed it all down. Asher had heard that if you put an ice cube in the toilet and flushed it down then it would snow. So they thought that if they put a lot of ice cubes in the toilet then it would snow a lot. Asher's elephant heard Asher's dad turn the radio back on again, wondering if he had heard the weather forecast correctly. "All listeners are reminded that this is not a drill. The National Weather Service is calling for twenty feet of snow now." Asher's dad was clearly worried. He said that twenty feet of snow would bury the house. Asher and Asher's elephant now worried that there would be too much snow, that they might not even be able to open the front door. Asher told his sister what they had done and she recommended they flush popcorn down the toilet. She had heard this would help the sun shine and prevent all cold weather. Asher went to his mother and asked her for some popcorn. After she had popped a bag Asher grabbed it and ran to the bathroom. He started flushing individual pieces of popcorn down one at a time. "How much should we put in?" he asked Asher's elephant. "Put the whole bag in," said Asher's elephant. So they flushed the whole bag down. Thankfully the toilet did not stop up! They ran back to the family room and Asher asked his dad what the weather forecast was. He turned the radio back on. "Amazingly, the blizzard has blown out to sea and there will not be anymore snow. In fact we're headed for unseasonably warm weather now; pack your shorts," they heard the weatherman say. It was a close call. Asher and Asher's elephant swore that was the last time they would mess with the weather.

The great journey
One morning Asher's elephant awoke to see that Asher's dad was packing his bags for a trip. Asher's elephant wondered where he was going. Asher's dad had been on trips before, but Asher's elephant never seemed to get to travel anywhere. Perhaps he should tag along this time, he thought. When Asher's dad was not looking, Asher's elephant snuck into his backpack and hid. Asher's dad zipped up the backpack -- Asher's elephant was going on a trip! He listened to the journey for many hours, as they took a taxi to the airport, a plane, and then another plane, and then a bus. When Asher's elephant emerged from the backpack, he looked around. Where was he? There were mountains, a lot of dust, and a deep blue sky. Asher's dad walked around and Asher's elephant went with him. At one point they stopped by a funny house on stilts. There was a man sitting inside the little house, which only had a chair, a counter, and a stove. The man was in a uniform and had a funny pakol hat, but he invited Asher's dad in for tea and an interesting flat bread called naan. As Asher's dad and the man were enjoying breakfast they saw a herd of camels off in the distance. Asher's elephant was very interested in this strange land and its men with long beards. At the end of the trip, Asher's elephant snuck back into the backpack and listened to the journey back, which included another bus, two more airplanes, and another taxi. It was a great trip, but it was also good to be home.

A mysterious visitor
Something was not right. The day had started like any other, but at some point in the day Asher's elephant noticed that Asher's sister had disappeared and someone else, a mysterious visitor, had seemed to take her place. Asher's elephant was not sure who it was. The visitor spoke with a strange accent and had a very interesting hairstyle. It was normal for a person to wear glasses, but the ones the visitor wore did not have any lenses in them. While Asher's elephant knew it was not polite to stare, he just could not help looking at the stranger's nose and then looking at the stranger's face; they just did not seem to go together. In one way the stranger seemed familiar to Asher's elephant, but he just could not figure out what it was. Finally he asked Asher who the stranger was. Asher said, "you don't know Billy Bob Joe? Let me introduce you." "Billy Bob Joe," Asher said with a sort of chuckle, "this is my elephant." "Pleased to me you sir," said Billy Bob Joe. Then Billy Bob Joe and Asher laughed and laughed. Asher's elephant was a little puzzled; what was so funny he thought to himself. "Don't worry," said Billy Bob Joe next, "it's just me." With a quick tug at the glasses Asher's sister took off her disguise and Asher's elephant soon saw it had only been a mask. The "mystery" was solved.

Off on an adventure
Asher's elephant decided that he wanted to go on an adventure, so he climbed down off of the bed, which was no small feat. First he tied a jump rope to the bed post and then wrapped his trunk around the rope. He slid down very carefully, guiding himself with his feet, and pausing on the bed frame to collect himself before setting out again. He landed softly on the carpet, let go of the jump rope and set out toward the bedroom door. It was open slightly and he pulled back on it with his trunk and then wedged himself through the opening. Asher's elephant looked down the hallway and decided to walk to Asher's sister's room. When he got to her door, he found it was closed. There was nothing he could do to get it open. Next he headed toward the bathroom. Maybe he would take a bath he thought to himself. The bathroom door was open and Asher's elephant went in. He climbed up the steps in front of the toilet and stood on top of the toilet seat. There was a gap between the toilet and the bathtub, but Asher's elephant could jump across if he lined up just right. He stepped back to the edge of the toilet seat, took his aim, and then went running to the other side. Just before the edge he lept into the air, stretched out his ears and trunk and landed firmly on the side of the bathtub. He inched over to the faucet handles and turned on the hot and cold water for a warm bath. After a couple of minutes he turned the water off. Now Asher's elephant lined up for his favorite part. He was going to run down the edge of the tub and jump in. He was ready. He ran forward, angled to the right, jumped, and landed with a SPLASH!

With a tchroooosshh!
Tchroooosshh. Tchroooosshh. Tchroooosshh. Tchroooossheee. Such a nice noise was Asher's elephant's first thought as he awoke. The waves at the ocean do make a nice noise. Each wave builds up way out at sea; the lightest breeze or the smallest wiggle of a fish can get it started. As the waves move forward they gather up other little waves to join them, and together they grow into medium-sized waves. When they get that big they can dance and ripple at the surface, catching sun rays and shining them back to the sky like a handful of stars. The medium-sized waves run together and try to race each other into the shore. Sometimes they get going too fast and stumble, breaking a white crest of a wave while they are still far out to sea. As they get closer to the beach the sea floor gets closer to the sky, which pushes the waves up higher and higher. By the time the waves get to the shallow shoreline they merge together into big, long waves. Some of the medium-sized waves miss joining in and they sputter in like choppy splashes in a mud puddle. The big, long waves rise up high and then lean over onto the beach, curling forward like long fingers. With a tchroooosshh they crash into the sand, spreading out as thin as they can to see how far onto land they can go. Then after a pause, suggesting they want to stay longer, they fall back into the next wave, trying to stay long enough to be propelled forward again if they can, before retreating and then rushing far, far back to sea, to start all over again.

Storm
Asher's elephant was enjoying the baseball game. He loved the sound of the crowd yelling, he loved the smell of peanuts and popcorn, he even loved the music the announcer played between innings. And what a great game it was too; one player hit a grand slam! Suddenly it started getting darker though, and the wind began blowing. Cups and napkins swirled up into the air, flying and floating up higher and higher, then spinning around and diving back down, only to fly back up again. Some of them even flew out of the stadium; who knows where they went. The air got cooler and instantly buckets of rain began falling on the players. They ran to the dugouts and the stands emptied, with fans running inside like lines of ants fleeing back into an ant hill. Fortunately Asher and his family were sitting way up high in the nose-bleed section, under an overhang, so they did not get wet. They just sat and watched the groundskeepers pull a huge blanket out that they laid over the baseball diamond. What fun! Then there was a flash and a slow, grumbling rumble of thunder. With lightning in the area, Asher and his family had to get out of there. So they ran through the rain back to their car. On the way home they saw trees knocked down in the road and the stop lights were out in many places. When they finally got home they found that the lights were out and it was very dark. Asher's elephant wondered what they would do with no lights. Then Asher's elephant heard Asher's mom pull some candles out of the cupboard, light them, and set them all around the room. It was like having stars inside the house! That night they went to bed with the candles and listened to the rain fall on the roof. It was quite a storm!

For just one morning
It was quiet. No, there were birds chirping and cicadas buzzing in the background. The room was a little bit dark, but it was also a little bit light. Asher's elephant lay comfortably on a bed among soft pillows and warm blankets. A fan blew air through the room. He stretched out his legs, he arched his back, and he rolled his trunk out as far as it would go. He yawned a huge yawn and his big ears spread wide. He rubbed his eyes with his trunk. Where were Asher and his sister he wondered. What could they be doing? Today would be a good day to go horseback riding or to the pool or to the park. It was also a good day to go digging in the backyard. What would they do today? So many choices. But where were Asher and his sister. Did they leave Asher's elephant behind. Would he miss out on all the fun things they could do that day? Suddenly Asher's elephant heard a stirring, then he heard a yawn and a stretch, and then it was quiet again. Asher's elephant peered through the little bit of darkness and realized he was still in Asher’s room. Asher's elephant realized what they were doing today. They were sleeping in!

Parade!
It’s time for the parade! It’s time for the parade, cried Asher. A parade? Whatever reason could there be for a parade? Asher’s elephant was anxious to find out. Asher and his sister were getting cloth bags together and they ran out to the street. There were people lined up and down the sidewalks. Some were sitting in chairs and some were standing. Kids ran back and forth across the street, a street that suddenly had no cars! Would the parade go right by their house? Suddenly Asher’s elephant heard sirens off in the distance and then he could hear the boom, boom, boom of a band. Oh, how exciting! After a few moments Asher’s elephant could see people coming down the road. Some carried banners, some rode on bicycles, and some walked along. Now there were different vehicles coming: funny cars, old cars, big trucks, tractors, motorcycles, and floats! The people in the parade threw candy to the children, they handed out necklaces, even toothbrushes! There were Army trucks and fire trucks and even police cars. As they came by they honked their horns or sounded their sirens. When some people came by holding the American flag, everyone stood and put their hand over their heart as it went by, even Asher’s elephant. Asher and his sister ran all around catching candy and putting it in their bags. Asher’s elephant looked around for a special piece of candy for himself. He saw a lollipop, he saw some gum, he saw a jawbreaker; oh, how fun. What do you think he picked?

Pool
Asher’s elephant heard some splashing and laughing. It sounded like Asher and his sister were playing in a pool. They were jumping in like cannon balls, kicking water high in the air, and swimming back and forth from side to side. Sometimes they would dive down deep and stand on their hands so only their toes tipped out of the water like fish trying to catch flies. They threw balls back and forth to each other in the water. They dropped coins and let them sink, swimming down to the bottom to retrieve them. They also lay on rafts and floated on big foam noodles. They sat on the noodles like they were horses on a merry-go-round, and they clung to them like they were big branches on a tree. Asher put one of the noodles under water and blew air through one end of the noodle to the other. Water sprayed out! Asher’s elephant could do that too. He could slurp up water in his trunk and spray it all over himself. He could spray water across a room. Asher’s elephant wished he could go to the pool too. He would jump off the diving board like a cannon ball and make a great big splash. He would do hand stands too. He would also throw coins down into the bottom of the pool and swim down deep to retrieve them. Most of all, Asher’s elephant wanted to go to a pool with a big slide so he could slide down really fast and skip across the surface of the water like a stone skipping across a lake. After a few bounces he would just set down into the water, take a deep breath, roll over on his back, and just float.

Running
Asher's elephant could tell they were running. The tall grass was flying by, birds were singing, and there were flowers all around. They were running down a small path through a big field. Where were they going and why was Asher running so fast? Asher's sister was several steps ahead of them. All around them butterflies and grasshoppers got out of the way. With the tall grass waving in the wind, it was a little hard to see the path, which was no more than a divide or part among the stalks. They passed a row of potato plants, some blackberry bushes, and then emerged into a lawn of freshly cut grass and clover, like they were in someone's back yard. It wasn't a yard though, neither front nor back, but an open area on either side of a stream. The stream ran swiftly over small rocks and pebbles. Huge walnut trees stood by the steam as though they were cows pausing on a hot day to cool their feet. Asher's sister splashed into the stream, sending sparkling drops of water flying through the air. Asher followed with a splish and a splash; such fun for the first day of June!

The Giant
It was time for bed and Asher and his sister wanted a story about a giant. That night Asher's elephant dreamed that he was a giant. His big feet were even bigger. His huge ears were even more huge. His bed was as big as ten beds pulled together. His dinner plate was as big as a table. His fork was as big as a rake, and his spoon was as big as a shovel. For breakfast he had to eat twenty bowls of cereal to feel full. At lunch Asher's elephant had to eat 30 hotdogs to feel full, and at dinner he had to eat spaghetti with twenty meatballs. The best part was when he had 45 scoops of ice cream for dessert! Asher's elephant liked being a giant because his long legs could help him travel faster than he ever had before. He also like being a giant because he was too big to fit in any classroom, so he got to go out to recess all day, every day!

A Trip to the Moon
Asher's elephant heard Asher's dad tell the kids a story about a rocket trip to the moon. In the story the kids rode on a rocket into space, landed on the moon, and collected lunar rock samples. In the story, Asher's dad told the kids not to jump too high because the gravity on the moon was not as strong as the Earth's gravity. Asher's elephant thought about how much fun it would be to go to the moon and play in the weak gravity. If Asher's elephant went to the moon he would jump very far from one point here to another point there. He would try to jump straight up and see if he could get ten feet in the air! Asher's elephant would try to walk on his two back feet. Asher's elephant would try to walk on his two front feet. He would try to jump over craters as big as a lake, he would try to jump over every hill no matter how long it might take. He planned to balance on his trunk and bounce his way around and find the biggest moon rock anyone has found. Asher's elephant knew the moon would be a fun place to play and hoped that he could visit very soon, maybe today.

Treehouse
Asher's elephant awoke to a debate Asher was having with his sister. As they looked inside the plastic bottle their butterfly Franklin was living in they saw a new green shoot of a tree growing up through the dirt. Asher and his sister were wondering what would happen when the tree reached the top of the bottle. Asher's elephant went back to sleep and he had a dream about Franklin's bottle and the tree seed. The green shoot did grow, and as it did it broke a hole through the bottle and continued growing. It grew up to the ceiling. When it hit the ceiling it grew through it. Branches grew out of the trunk and grabbed onto more and more of the ceiling. Eventually it was so strong that it pushed the bottle down through the table and onto the floor. As the tree grew bigger and bigger it lifted the house off the ground. What a tree house! Asher's elephant looked out the window and saw a hawk fly by. In the distance he saw tall mountains, a river, and a blue lake. He thought it would be fun to swim and play in the lake one day. Asher's elephant was amazed when he thought about how a little seed had grown into something that could lift him and the entire house. Asher's elephant awoke; he would have to tell Asher to keep an eye on the green shoot!

Six year old journalist reports on poop
After a recent hike in the woods, I decided to hang the bag of dog poop out the window rather than keep it in the car. Asher's sister recorded the ensuing discussion.

Tree-climbing
Asher and his sister were talking about climbing a tree. Asher's elephant was very interested in this. He had never thought about climbing a tree before. He wondered what kind of tree he would be good at climbing. He thought that a palm tree might be fun to climb, but then he decided there were not enough branches on a palm tree for him to climb one. He also thought about climbing a weeping willow, but he thought he would only get tangled in its branches. Then he thought it would be fun to climb a cypress tree, but then he realized he would have to wade through a swamp to get to one. Asher's elephant thought about climbing a pecan tree, but then he thought he might get distracted eating the pecans. He thought about climbing a fir tree, but he thought it would just bend over to the ground as he climbed it. Next he thought about climbing a pear tree, but he had heard they blow over easily in wind storms and thought it would not be able to hold him. He also thought about climbing pine trees and maple trees, but he thought he would only get sap all over himself. He chuckled when he envisioned himself climbing a bonsai tree. He also thought about climbing a redwood tree, and decided it would be big enough and strong enough to hold him. Now all he needed to do was find one!

Franklin
Asher's elephant was excited. There was a new pet in the house and his name was Franklin. At first Asher's elephant did not know what kind of animal Franklin was. Franklin did not make any noises. He apparently liked to eat leaves. He spent a lot of time climbing and sometimes sat very still for long periods of time. Franklin lived in a container that Asher and his sister looked into. Asher found Franklin outside while on a walk with his dad. When Asher held Franklin, Asher laughed and said Franklin was tickling him. It sounded like Asher and his sister were waiting for Franklin to turn into something; Asher's elephant couldn't decide what Franklin would turn into. Would it be a flower? A leaf? Would Franklin turn into another animal? What a mystery! Asher's sister said Frankin was going to turn into a chrysalis. Asher's elephant thought this was a strange word, and he hoped that Franklin would be okay. Asher's sister said that Franklin would be growing while he was in his crysalis, and one day his crysalis would start cracking. Then it would crack some more, until Franklin came out again. Asher's dad said Franklin would be a moth, but he was wrong. Franklin is a butterfly!

Soccer
Asher's elephant was excited to go to a soccer game. It sounded very exciting, but Asher's elephant didn't know if he would be a good soccer player or not. He started thinking about what would be his best sport. He didn't think he would be good at basketball because he couldn't dribble well. He didn't think he would be a good swimmer because if he jumped into a pool he might slosh all the water out! He didn't think he would be a good bicyclist because his weight might pop the tires! He didn't think he would be a good gymnast because he couldn't grab hold of the rings. He might be a good baseball player because he could swing the bat with his trunk. For that matter, he might be good at tennis too. Asher's elephant thought he would be good at bowling because he could roll the ball hard. Hockey might be difficult because he can't fit into ice skates. As Asher's elephant considered it, he might be a great soccer goalie. With four legs and a huge body, Asher's elephant could easily block the goals. And when he had the soccer ball wrapped in his trunk he could throw it very far. Asher's elephant would be a good soccer player.

Something New
Asher's elephant heard Asher's father talking about something he saw on his morning walk with the dog. Asher's father said it was an animal that he had not seen before on his walks. Asher asked him what it was. Asher's father said, you'll have to guess what it was I saw. Asher's elephant was excited to try to guess too. Asher's father began, it was orange and white. A cat, cried Asher; a chicken, thought Asher's elephant. No, but it had long pointy ears. A dog, cried Asher; a mule, thought Asher's elephant. No, but it runs like a dog. A wolf, cried Asher; a coyote, thought Asher's elephant. No, but it had a bushy tail. A squirrel, cried Asher; a raccoon, thought Asher's elephant. No, it was a fox, said Asher's dad. A fox, cried Asher; a fox, thought Asher's elephant. What is a fox, asked Asher. I have never seen a fox before, thought Asher's elephant. A fox is an animal like a dog, but instead of living with people, foxes live in the woods and fields. Do foxes have houses asked Asher. They have holes called dens that they go into said Asher's dad. What do they eat asked Asher. They eat bugs, worms, fruit, and birds said Asher's dad. Bugs and worms, cried Asher, ewww, gross! Asher's elephant thought bugs and worms would be gross to eat. Asher's elephant wondered if he could live in a den one day. It would have to be a big hole he thought. Asher's elephant thought that if he did have a den he would make sure it had a nice window and a cozy fireplace. And Asher's elephant would have all his friends over to visit his den. But if he was going to have his friends over, his den would have to be a really, really big hole.

Brushing Teeth
On one recent cool spring evening Asher's elephant heard Asher's mom tell Asher he had to brush his teeth. Asher's elephant remembered that he needed to brush his teeth too; in fact he had not brushed them in a while! Oh my, cried Asher's elephant, I have to brush my teeth or they will turn purple and fall out! Asher's elephant sat for a moment and thought of where his toothbrush was; then remembered it was behind his ear. He reached up and pulled a huge orange toothbrush from behind his left ear. Next Asher's elephant went over to his bucket and dipped his toothbrush in water and then squeezed toothpaste on it. Now Asher's elephant tried to pick up his toothbrush with his feet and realized he couldn't grab it. Asher's elephant thought, how will I brush my teeth if I can't pick-up my toothbrush with my feet? If I don't brush my teeth they will turn purple and fall out! Asher's elephant was growing sad. Suddenly Asher's elephant remembered he could use his trunk, so he picked up his toothbrush and was happy. Asher's elephant opened his mouth wide and he brushed all his top teeth, and brushed all his bottom teeth. He brushed them on the inside and he brushed them on the outside. He brushed his tongue and he brushed his gums. Then he put down his toothbrush and took in a huge slurp of water, so much water that his cheeks puffed out. Then Asher's elephant gargled, and he gargled, and he gargled; gargle, gargle, gargle, SPIT!

Sam's House
One day Asher's elephant heard that one of his neighborhood friends, Sam skunk, was locked out of his home. Asher's elephant did not want to be locked out of his home, so he asked Sam how he got locked out. Sam skunk told Asher's elephant that he had been out and when he came back there was as a board over his hole. Sam skunk told Asher's elephant that the board that blocked his door had been covered with bricks. Asher's elephant felt sorry for Sam skunk and he wondered who had blocked and locked Sam skunk out of his home. Sure, Sam skunk was stinky, but he was the only skunk in town that Asher's elephant knew. Asher's elephant asked Sam skunk where he was going to live if he could not get back in his home. Sam skunk said he did not know, so they sat and thought about places Sam skunk could live. They thought of the bushes by Billy badger's house and the log by Laurie lizard's house, but neither seemed a fit. Then Asher's elephant remembered the shrub by the stream, which was not far from Sam skunk's house. The shrub had leaves all year round, was hollow on the inside, and no one lived in it. The shrub will be perfect, said Sam skunk, there is fresh water in the stream and even a trashcan near by. Asher's elephant was happy that Sam skunk had a home again and he looked forward to sitting by the stream one day.

Eggs
Asher's elephant heard Asher and his sister talking about the most interesting thing: a rabbit that hides eggs. They said that the rabbit sneaks around your house and hides eggs, colorful eggs all around in the yard. Asher's elephant starting thinking about where he would hide his eggs and what colors the eggs would be. First he thought about hiding the eggs in the monkey grass, but he wasn't sure if that would be a good spot. Then he thought about hiding them in the azalea bushes, but he thought he might not find them again. Next he thought about hiding them in the branches of a tall, tall tree, but he worried he might not reach them again. Finally he realized the perfect hiding place, he would put his eggs in the elephant grass. But what color should his eggs be? Asher's elephant wondered to himself. He liked purple, but he liked yellow too. Then there was green, and he could not forget blue. Picking one color was too much to decide, and Asher's elephant wondered if his eggs could have more than one color. He decided that he probably could because they were his imaginary eggs anyway. So his eggs would be green and blue and purple and yellow and they would sit together in the elephant grass. Asher's elephant did not know where he would get his eggs from, but when he did he knew exactly where to hide them.

Strange Sounds
Asher's elephant heard the strangest sounds, sounds he had never heard before, strange and wild sounds all around. He tried to hear each sound but there were so many, so he opened and closed his big ears one at a time. First he heard a whistling, then he heard a hissing, then he heard a roaring, and then he heard a snoring.
He thought about the whistling, how it whistled short, short, long, short, short, long. It was nice whistling. Asher's elephant thought about the hissing, how it hisssssed here and it hissssed there. It was splendid hissssing. Then Asher's elephant thought about the roaring, a running and leaping sort of roaring. It was playful roaring. Then he thought about the snoring, a hazy and a lazy kind of snoring. It was afternoon-napping kind of snoring. Then Asher's elephant heard a trumpeting, a whaaow and a waaah, just the sort of noise Asher's elephant made. And he wondered if it was his trumpeting he was hearing or someone else's; it didn't sound like his, but it did too. So he clenched up his trunk, he closed his mouth, he held his breath and he listened, he listened very carefully. He heard the whistling, and he heard the hissing. He heard the roaring, and he heard the snoring. And then Asher's elephant heard the trumpeting, and he knew it was not his, and so he breathed a deep breath. He was happy that he had not lost his trumpeting, and Asher's elephant was amazed by all the strange and wild sounds.

Camping
Asher's elephant had the most amazing dream he had ever had before: he dreamed he went camping. Asher's elephant's campsite included a big, big tent, big enough for Asher's elephant and all of his friends. The tent had big, beautiful, colorful rugs and carpets that covered the entire floor of the tent. Screens in the tent let in cool breezes that kept the tent comfortable year round. Asher's elephant's tent had huge pillows scattered around, and Asher's elephant would roll around on them. The tent also had large scratching posts the size of trees, and Asher's elephant would rub his back against them. There was a big pool in the tent that had cool water to drink anytime Asher's elephant was thirsty. Asher's elephant especially loved the sprawling piles of straw and overflowing buckets of peanuts to eat. At night, after Asher's elephant had eaten all the straw and peanuts he could eat, he would lay down on his pillows. And he would look up at the screens in the top of his tent, peering out at the stars, the millions and millions of stars. Asher's elephant loved dreaming about his tent!

Spring
Asher's elephant heard Asher's sister talking about Spring: she said it was sunny, warm, buzzing, and green. Asher's elephant had never seen Spring before and he wondered why it was buzzing and green. Spreading his big ears wide, he listened carefully to see if he could hear the buzzing. No matter how wide he spread his big ears, he could not hear any buzzing, and it was so puzzling. So Asher's elephant squinted his eyes and he peered as far as he could see, but he did not see green. The next day Asher's elephant smelled the sweetest and most beautiful smell. He stretched out his trunk as far as he could and he breathed in deeply, hoping he could grab the sweetness. No matter how deeply he breathed, he could not reach whatever it was that smelled so sweet. The next day Asher's elephant did not smell the great smell again, but he felt warm just thinking about it. Asher's elephant awoke the next day to buzzing, a lazy buzzing that went this way and that, back and forth. He spread out his ears and stretched out his trunk and sniffed, finding the same sweet smell. Asher's elephant could not see anything green, but he thought that whatever was buzzing and sweet must be green too. Asher's elephant thought Spring was sunny and warm and buzzing and green, and also sweet.
