Something New

Asher's elephant heard Asher's father talking about something he saw on his morning walk with the dog. Asher's father said it was an animal that he had not seen before on his walks.  Asher asked him what it was. Asher's father said, you'll have to guess what it was I saw.  Asher's elephant was excited to try to guess too. Asher's father began, it was orange and white.  A cat, cried Asher; a chicken, thought Asher's elephant. No, but it had long pointy ears.  A dog, cried Asher; a mule, thought Asher's elephant. No, but it runs like a dog.  A wolf, cried Asher; a coyote, thought Asher's elephant. No, but it had a bushy tail.  A squirrel, cried Asher; a raccoon, thought Asher's elephant. No, it was a fox, said Asher's dad.  A fox, cried Asher; a fox, thought Asher's elephant. What is a fox, asked Asher.  I have never seen a fox before, thought Asher's elephant. A fox is an animal like a dog, but instead of living with people, foxes live in the woods and fields. Do foxes have houses asked Asher.  They have holes called dens that they go into said Asher's dad. What do they eat asked Asher.  They eat bugs, worms, fruit, and birds said Asher's dad. Bugs and worms, cried Asher, ewww, gross!  Asher's elephant thought bugs and worms would be gross to eat. Asher's elephant wondered if he could live in a den one day. It would have to be a big hole he thought. Asher's elephant thought that if he did have a den he would make sure it had a nice window and a cozy fireplace. And Asher's elephant would have all his friends over to visit his den. But if he was going to have his friends over, his den would have to be a really, really big hole.
