One day Asher's elephant heard that one of his neighborhood friends, Sam skunk, was locked out of his home. Asher's elephant did not want to be locked out of his home, so he asked Sam how he got locked out. Sam skunk told Asher's elephant that he had been out and when he came back there was as a board over his hole. Sam skunk told Asher's elephant that the board that blocked his door had been covered with bricks. Asher's elephant felt sorry for Sam skunk and he wondered who had blocked and locked Sam skunk out of his home. Sure, Sam skunk was stinky, but he was the only skunk in town that Asher's elephant knew. Asher's elephant asked Sam skunk where he was going to live if he could not get back in his home. Sam skunk said he did not know, so they sat and thought about places Sam skunk could live. They thought of the bushes by Billy badger's house and the log by Laurie lizard's house, but neither seemed a fit. Then Asher's elephant remembered the shrub by the stream, which was not far from Sam skunk's house. The shrub had leaves all year round, was hollow on the inside, and no one lived in it. The shrub will be perfect, said Sam skunk, there is fresh water in the stream and even a trashcan near by. Asher's elephant was happy that Sam skunk had a home again and he looked forward to sitting by the stream one day.
