Asher’s elephant heard some splashing and laughing. It sounded like Asher and his sister were playing in a pool. They were jumping in like cannon balls, kicking water high in the air, and swimming back and forth from side to side. Sometimes they would dive down deep and stand on their hands so only their toes tipped out of the water like fish trying to catch flies. They threw balls back and forth to each other in the water. They dropped coins and let them sink, swimming down to the bottom to retrieve them. They also lay on rafts and floated on big foam noodles. They sat on the noodles like they were horses on a merry-go-round, and they clung to them like they were big branches on a tree. Asher put one of the noodles under water and blew air through one end of the noodle to the other. Water sprayed out! Asher’s elephant could do that too. He could slurp up water in his trunk and spray it all over himself. He could spray water across a room. Asher’s elephant wished he could go to the pool too. He would jump off the diving board like a cannon ball and make a great big splash. He would do hand stands too. He would also throw coins down into the bottom of the pool and swim down deep to retrieve them. Most of all, Asher’s elephant wanted to go to a pool with a big slide so he could slide down really fast and skip across the surface of the water like a stone skipping across a lake. After a few bounces he would just set down into the water, take a deep breath, roll over on his back, and just float.
